The Lagos State Government says no fewer than 48 schools will benefit from its School Agric Programme (SAP) initiative. The Commissioner for Agriculture, Toyin Suarau, stated this on Friday during a meeting with school principals, vice principals and agricultural science teachers in the state at Alausa, Ikeja.

The Lagos State Government says public schools in the state are becoming a force to reckon with educationally, adding that the performances of pupils are enviable. Nigeria, which recently lost its Africa’s top oil producer status to Angola on the back of huge decline in its output, stands a chance of losing some pf its traditional buyers to rival producers such s Iran and Saudi Arabia, industry experts have said. Following the spate of production disruptions largely caused by the recent upsurge in militants attacks on oil infrastructure in the Niger Delta that have cut Nigeria’s output to the lowest in almost three decades, export of the commodity from the country have taken a serious beating.

#Power: Power sector loses N2bn daily, more turbines pack up

The power sector has been losing an average of N2 billion daily since the resurgence of pipeline bombings by militants in the Niger Delta, latest electricity supply statistics have shown. This coming as the number of functional gas-fired power generating turbines across the country has dropped from 50 that were operational in April to about 30 as of the end of last week.

There was a palpable tension at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health in Abuja yesterday, as workers again shut down the place, over the rate of alleged corruption and other misconducts at the ministry. The workers shut down power supply, switched off the elevators and insisted that the Permanent Secretary, Dr Amina Shamaki, stay away from the ministry and is redeployed by the Head of Service of the Federation.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said that Nigeria’s total trade volume for the first quarter of 2016 (Q1 2016) is valued at N2.72 trillion. According to Q1 Foreign Trade statistics report made available to journalists in Abuja yesterday, the N2.72 trillion Q1 total foreign trade value is 22.6% less than total trade volume recorded in Q4 2015 and 38.0% less than same quarter in 2015.

The Federal Government and the World Bank are working closely to review the nation’s privatised mining enterprises, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Kayode Fayemi, has disclosed. #Oil: Nigeria loses $45.9m revenue in April

Nigeria recorded a revenue loss of $45.9 million in April, according to Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun. The revenue loss was as a result of a drop in the average price of crude oil from $39.04 in December 2015 to $29.02 in January this year, the minister said.

The Ministry of Transportation has begun the test-run of the Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge rail ahead of its official commissioning. Jigawa State governor, Badaru Abubakar, said his administration attracted over $600 million private investment since its inception in May 29. #Power: FG bans mass disconnection of electricity customers

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) said it has banned the mass disconnection of electricity debtors by the 11 distribution companies (Discos) just as the firms said they are only cutting off long-term debtors. NERC in a publication yesterday said it learnt of mass disconnection of electricity supply to communities, villages and estates by the Discos based on the non-payment of electricity bills.

#Economy: Report- Nigeria’s manufacturing at 10% of GDP is below average of sub-Saharan Africa

A new report by the Overseas Development Institutes (ODI), has found that share of manufacturing in Gross Domestic Product in Nigeria at 10%, is below any reasonable comparators. The report stressed that the business-as-usual attitude of government and private individuals will not safeguard productive jobs for the future, and will not in addition reduce poverty significantly, adding that efforts to achieve economic transformation in Nigeria require a completely different approach.
