Enterprise Bank Limited has said it joined the league of global organisations and financial institutions that are currently listed on Google Maps.

Google Maps is a Google service offering powerful, user-friendly mapping technology and local business information – including business locations, contact information and driving directions.

Health: Yaro Warns against Diversion of Drugs, Hospital Equipment

Kaduna State governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Yero Thursday warned against diversion of drugs and hospital equipment meant for primary health centres in the state, saying that anyone caught indulging in such corrupt and retrogressive acts will be dealt with.

Speaking at the commissioning of  drugs, consumables and hospital equipment worth over N600 million donated by the Partnership for Transforming of Health Systems,  otherwise known as PATHS 2, Yero  also said he will hold officials of the state ministry of health responsible for any foul play in the distribution of the items to the various health centres.

With a new United Nations’ data indicating that Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting(FGM/C) is becoming less prevalent and younger generation becoming less vulnerable, UNICEF Executive Director, Anthony Lake described the practice as deeply wrong and must be stopped to help millions of girls and women lead healthier lives. 

Data released on the International Day of Zero Tolerance of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting, shows that fewer girls are subjected to the life-threatening practice of FGM/C

Investment: Microsoft to invest N12bn in Nigeria

Education: UBA Academy rolls out 93 fresh graduates

A new set of 93 management trainees  have successfully completed the third edition of the banking school programme of the UBA Academy as part of the bank’s pre-requisite for gainful employment in the institution.

At the colourful convocation ceremony held at the bank headquarters,the group managing director/CEO, Phillips Oduoza described the banking school as a key platform for gauging the human capital investment of  the bank noting that ‘human capital investment’ remains UBA Plc’s biggest asset.

Environment: DESOPADEC flags off free health care in Patani

The Chairman of Delta State Oil-Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Mr. Oritsuwa Kpogho, says the Commission is committed to addressing health challenges of the rural communities in the state.

Speaking in Patani, Headquarters of Patani Local Government Area of the state while flagging off the Free Medical Care of the interventionist agency, the DESOPADEC boss said that all would be done to meet up with the health challenges of the downtrodden in the rural communities of the state.

Electricity: Bayelsa approves N4bn for Rural Electricity

Partnership: Ekiti partners IBM on e-governance
Ekiti State Government has entered into an agreement with International Business Machines (IBM) which would see the software vendor provide ICT solutions to the State Government, the State University and the Civil Society on areas such as Smart Governance, Citizen Information Management System and e-school projects.
According to ThisDay, IBM experts arrived the state over the weekend, and would work with officials of the Nigerian state in different sectors of the state for the next one month.

Infrastructure: NACCIMA wants govt to boost infrastructure with foreign reserves

The Director-General, Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Dr. John Osemede, has urged the Federal Government to invest a part of Nigeria’s foreign reserve on infrastructure.
Osemede, who gave this advice at a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) forum on Thursday in Lagos, explained that the reserve should be invested on critical infrastructure of the economy.

ESSO Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL), operator of Oil Mining Lease 133, has received approval from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to award three engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for Erha North Phase II project.

According to the General Manager, Public & Government Affairs, Paul Arinze, in a statement, Wednesday, the EPC awards represent a significant milestone in the development of Erha North Phase II and demonstrate continued cooperation between Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and EEPNL to grow the business and support the Nigerian government in meeting national goals.

Environment: FG asks NIMET to take precautionary measures

Following the flooding that wreaked havoc in 28 states of the federation in 2012, the Federal Government has directed the Nigerian Metrological Agency to put precautionary measures in place to prevent recurrence this year.

The Director-General, NIMET, Dr. Anthony Anuforom, disclosed this in an interview with journalists at the opening of a three-day national conference on the application of metrological information in weather disaster risk reduction and socio-economic planning, which opened in Abuja on Wednesday.

Health: DESOPADEC healthcare beneficiaries hail Uduaghan
People of Ethiope West Local Government Area of the Delta State who benefited from the services and gesture of the Urhobo Commissioners in DESOPADEC extended their appreciation to the state Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, and Dr. Henry Ofa JP; for bringing free healthcare services to their door steps.

Coordinator of the programme, Dr. Irikefe Umukoro, and some other health personnel employed by DESOPADEC for the programme also commended the governor and the Urhobo commissioners on the board of DESOPADEC for the gesture, appealing that the programme should be sustained for more patients who could not afford medical bills to benefit from the initiative of Dr. Ofa and his colleagues from the Urhobo nation on the DESOPADEC board.

Security: FG Beefs up Security around Polio Workers

The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, on Thursday disclosed that the Federal Government had given special priority to the security of polio vaccinators and all other health workers across the country. 

Also on Thursday, Kano State Government stated that it had donated the sum of N500,000 each to the families of the 10 health workers, who were killed recently by unknown gunmen and N250,000 to four others, who sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack.

Health: US Embassy Outlines Condition for Baby Delivery in America
Contrary to the widely held notions in the polity that to deliver a baby in the United States, a pregnant woman has to conceal her pregnancy during her visa interview and while entering the US, or she has to travel before her pregnancy starts to show, the US Embassy has clarified that it is okay to decide to have a baby in the country.

This is against the backdrop of the practise where some Nigerians deliberately lie during visa interviews in their bid to secure automatic US citizenship for their children.

Labour: DPR seals off seven filling stations in Rivers

The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and  Air Transport Service Senior Staff Association (ATSSSAN) have given the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) 14 days ultimatum to pay the workers the enhanced salary scheme or they would ground their services in the agency.

But NAMA has said that a committee had been set up to look into the grey areas of the new condition of service with the labour leaders in order to have acceptable document for the benefit of the workers and the agency’s management.

Education: Sultan, Alaafin urge reintroduction of history in schools

Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, have called for the reintroduction of History in schools and the preservation of the nation’s culture. They spoke on Thursday when the Sultan visited the Alaafin in his palace in Oyo town.

The decision of the Federal Government to remove History from the nation’s educational curriculum, they said, was wrong and uncalled for.

MDGs: Govt. needs N360bn to meet water supply target

For the country to meet its Millennium Development Goal of adequate water supply by 2015, the government will need to expend N360bn annually on development projects in the sector, the Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe, has said.
According to her, the sum will be needed annually for the next three to five years to meet the nation’s water supply and sanitation needs.
