Orji donates mattresses to prison, decries condition of inmates
Governor
Theodore Orji has described the condition in most of Nigerian prisons as
disgusting and advised that governments, individuals and corporate
organisations must come to the assistance of the prison service in order to
redress the situation.
He stressed
that the need to provide a convivial environment for the inmates in the various
prisons across the country was predicated on the fact that majority of them
were not convicts but awaiting trial and may not be convicted at the end of the
day.

Lagos to build 1,000 roads in 2013
Lagos
State government has expressed its determination to make residents’ movement
hitch-free. It has therefore set a target of rehabilitating about 1,000 roads;
a proposal that has been captured in the 2013 budget.

FCMB invests in $1b Eko Atlantic City Project
First City Monument
Bank (FCMB), on Thursday in Lagos, pledge support for the development of Eko
Atlantic City, a reclamation project on the Lagos Atlantic that had reclaimed
500 million square metres.
Speaking
at the project dedication ceremony by President Goodluck Jonathan, Deputy
Managing Director of FCMB, Mr. Segun Odusanjo, said the bank and two others, as
well as some foreign banks are supporting the project that started in 2008
financially.

Infrastructure: Country 20 years behind in road development
The
lack of political will to carry out the needed reforms in the nation’s road
sector has set its development back by about 20 years, the Minister of Works,
Mr. Mike Onolememen, has said.

Small Farmers Sidelined in Biofuel Schemes
A
new report released by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation
(FAO) has revealed that current biofuel certification schemes are making it difficult
for smallholder farmers to participate in export markets.
The
detailed report also advocated for a change in the way these schemes are

Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have launched the Nigeria Incentive-Based
Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) initiative to provide
N60billion of loans for agro-dealers at nine per cent interest rate.
The
Permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development,

Transport: Transport gets boost as
AfDB Approves N48bn for Nigeria
The
African Development Bank Group yesterday in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, approved a
loan of $300 million (N48 billion) to finance the Transport Sector and Economic
Governance Reform Programme and the Nigeria Country Strategy Paper (CSP) for
2013-2017.
The Federal Government, as part of initiatives to improve on its gas
master-plan, has disclosed its resolve to reduce gas flaring in the country to
two per cent from the current 11 per cent by the year 2014.
